Why don’t you explode in space?
Seriously—if you open the hatch, and step out, you’re not bursting like a balloon.
But something stranger happens.
First, the hiss of escaping air. Your lungs—if you hold your breath, they rip apart.
Don’t. Breathe. Out.
Now, your eyes start to sting. The spit on your tongue? Boiling away. But there’s no heat—just pressure.
You’re floating. Limbs heavy. Time slows.
You can’t scream, but you want to. The silence is absolute.
Ten seconds in, you feel your saliva fizz. Your vision blurs. Ice crystals form on your tears.
But you’re awake. That’s the worst part.
The cold isn’t sharp, it’s numb. You try to move, but nothing answers.
Fifteen seconds. Blackness creeping in.
And suddenly, you hope someone’s watching—because if you’re alone, what’s left of you drifts forever, unseen, the last echo of human breath in endless dark.
